How can I see how many spare drives I have on a filer?

To see your spare drives, do this:
Put Folderscape in Advanced Mode. You can do this either by clicking
on in the toolbar or choosing "Advanced" from the
"View" menu.
Open the "Storage Status" entry in the tree.
Click on the "Others" entry in the tree.
This shows all the disks which are not part of an aggregate. (Generally,
that means it shows only your spare disks, but it can show other
disks too, such as disks which have failed.) The disks shown in white
are your spare disks.
